One of the important effects of the Recovery program does not appear right away, but months later.
This story was shared with us by Oksana Tryska — the mother of Andriy, who attended our camp session in 2024.
“Before camp, my son hardly spoke. Now he sings the songs he learned there. For the first time after everything we’ve been through, I hear his voice throughout the house.”
Andriy and his mother were evacuated from a frontline area in 2022. Before coming to camp, he was mostly silent and found it hard to connect with other children.
During the session, he gradually began to open up through drawing, working with our art therapist. On the last day, he sang with everyone for the first time in the evening circle.
After 8 months, he joined the school choir. After a year, he is singing solos.
This is exactly why we do this. Not to “entertain a child,” but to give them their voice back.
